Having clean windows improves the appearance of your business and/or office. But it also provides many other valuable benefits like giving employees a crystal clear view of the outdoors, lengthening the lifespan of your windows, and allowing more natural light into the space.
But as we know, cleaning windows can be a tough job; it’s time-consuming and very physical. If you have hard-to-reach windows, the task becomes even more challenging.
So, if you’re looking for safe and effective window cleaning techniques, you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post, we’ll share a step-by-step guide on how to clean your windows properly. Let’s dive in!
Window Washing Equipment
Before getting started, you’ll need to be sure you have the right equipment on hand:
- A squeegee
- A bucket
- A sponge or a scrubber
- A cleaning solution
- Lint-free towels or a microfibre cloth
- A ladder (for high windows)
- Clean water
Step-By-Step Guide
Install a new rubber squeegee blade to ensure no lines are left behind after cleaning your windows. It’s also a good idea to make your own cleaning solution consisting of one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and two gallons of clean water. You can also add white vinegar to the cleaning solution if you wish.
Scrub The Glass
Start by using a scrubber to scrub every centimetre of the window glass. Work at various angles to ensure the glass is completely covered. As you scrub the exterior windows, you’ll immediately start to see specks of dust and other debris being removed.
Clean A Starting Strip
Next, wipe your squeegee dry and tilt it so that the corner of the squeegee is in contact with the glass. Starting at the top corner of the window’s glass, clean a thin strip going down along the window’s border. This starting strip will help you when you begin cleaning in horizontal strokes.
Squeegee Across The Top
Once you have your starting strip, use your squeegee blade to press against the glass and pull horizontally across your window. Make sure your squeegee runs in contact with the top of the window.
Work Down The Window
Wipe your squeegee dry on a clean cloth or towel. Now, start cleaning the next horizontal strip. For streak-free results, overlap with your previous stroke by roughly two inches. Keep the squeegee at a slight angle to ensure excess water can easily run down. Wipe the blade and repeat until the entire window is done.
Wipe Off Excess Water
Use a cloth to wipe off excess water along the edges of your window frame. Then, use a dry cloth to wipe over the edges again for a streak-free shine.
